SERIES PREVIEW | FEBRUARY 3, 4 & 5 VS. MAINE MARINERS

The Newfoundland Growlers open the month of February on home ice as they host the Maine Mariners for a three-game set beginning on Friday night at the Mary Brown’s Centre.

Newfoundland wrapped up a successful six game road trip last weekend in Cincinnati where they swept the Cyclones in three straight meetings to conclude their travels with a 5-1-0-0 record. Goaltending was a difference maker for the Growlers against the Cyclones as they conceded just once in each of their three victories at the Heritage Bank Center.

While the Growlers enjoyed their recent time away, they’ll surely be happy to return home to Mary Brown’s Centre where they own a 17-4-0-0 record so far this season – a big part of the reason they sit atop the North Division standings.

Maine has been one of the hottest teams in the ECHL to start 2023 having won nine of their last 10 contests. As a result of their recent form, the Mariners sit just two points back of the Reading Royals for the second spot in the North Division.

The last meeting between these two teams back on November 26 produced one of the more memorable score lines in team history as the Growlers overturned a 5-2 deficit to take down the Mariners 9-6 at Cross Insurance Arena.

Although Newfoundland have had Maine’s number so far in 2022-23, winning five of their six previous meetings this season, the Mariners appear a different group to start the New Year and should give the Growlers a run for their money all weekend long.

Puck drops is set for 7:00 pm on Friday and Saturday night, while Sunday gets underway at 4:00 pm. Growlers fans can watch all three games live on FloSports (subscription required), listen to the call on Mixlr, or follow along on Twitter (@NLGrowlers) for game updates and highlights. WHO TO WATCH:

NFL – Adam Dawe (F): After turning pro and signing with Newfoundland in mid-January, the 24-year-old Gander native notched a hat-trick on January 25 vs. Cincinnati. With six games under his belt all on the road, Dawe will make his home debut this weekend against Maine.

MNE – Patrick Shea(F): Previously teammates with Dawe at the University of Maine, Shea leads the Mariners in both goals (17) and points (39) and has played a key role in the turnaround of Maine’s season.
