ST. JOHN’S, NL –The Newfoundland Growlers, ECHL affiliate of the Toronto Maple Leafs, are proud to announce that goaltender Keith Petruzzelli has been named to the 2021-2022 ECHL All-Rookie Team.
Petruzzelli, a 23-year old Wilbraham, Massachusetts native, appeared in 22 games with the Growlers and compiled a 15-6-1-0 record with a stellar 2.10 goals-against average and a .924 save percentage with four shutouts.
A third-round pick of the Detroit Red Wings in the 2017 NHL Entry Draft, Petruzzelli has collected many accolades throughout his rookie campaign, including winning ECHL Goaltender of the Month honours twice during the season, in October and in February.
Petruzzelli becomes the first Growlers goaltender to be named to the ECHL All-Rookie Team and becomes the third Growler all-time to be named to the squad, joining forward Justin Brazeau and defenseman Joe Duszak who were named to the 2019-20 All-Rookie Team.
A rookie is defined as a player who has played in less than 25 professional games at the “AA” level or higher prior to the start of the current season.
