St. John’s, NL - The Newfoundland Growlers, proud affiliate of the Toronto Maple Leafs have officially launched the 2021 Edition of Buddy's Book Club presented by Johnson Insurance, an educational program developed to encourage students to stay engaged with reading during their time away from school over the summer months.
The annual Buddy’s Book Club Program is designed to engage and encourage children to continue reading by providing tools to track their progress and offers unique Growlers incentives to those who participate. Children are tasked with reading for just 20 minutes a day as part of the program. By reading as little as 20 minutes a day, each child will accumulate more than 20 hours of reading during the summer.
Another key element of the program is the commitment from Johnson Insurance to its success. A great community partner, Johnson's Senior Vice President, John Thompson, says their association with the program stems from the desire to contribute to the community in which they conduct business.
“Johnson Insurance has been a longstanding supporter of the education sector and we are delighted to sponsor this wonderful literacy focused program,” said John Thompson, Senior Vice President with Johnson Insurance.
Last year, Buddy's Book Club saw exponential growth from previous years with over 900 active participants with numerous participants reading over 1000 minutes during the duration of the program.
The Newfoundland Growlers are committed to youth, health, wellness, as well as education through its community initiatives. This program will provide teachers, students, and parents with resources to motivate participants to read and track their progress online via the Growlers website. All readers will be eligible for various prize packages from the Newfoundland Growlers.
